Heroes Run

We've tried all sorts of things to raise money for our projects. One thing that we have learnt is that there's nothing wrong in having some fun. Although we're up for trying anything we've realised that there comes a time when it's important to recognise what works best; this is why we are now focusing on our one flagship event, the Heroes Run (formerly The Superhero Challenge).

The idea is simple; people dress up as a hero and run their little cotton socks off (run, jog, walk, anything really) along Brighton seafront in either a 10k or 5k run. There's even a 500m dash for the kids. Here's a little summary of the event to date:

1. Superhero Challenge 1 - 241 Superheroes turn up on Brighton Seafront and help us raise some funds
2. Superhero Challenge 2 - approx 270 Superheroes turn up on Brighton Seafront and help us out again. 
3. Superhero Challenge 3 - Same drill as the previous 2 years but this time we don't have to beg people quite as much to turn up,oh and local celeb Fatboy slim joins in.
4. Superhero Challenge 4 - 500 superheroes, three separate races, The Brighton Mayor kicks it all off, Juice FM, The Argus, Meridian TV and BBC South cover it, a superhero themed samba band keep morale up, and we raise over £17,000)
5. HEROES RUN 2009 - The biggest yet. 1400 heroes help to raise a massive £31,000.

Heroes Run 2010 was held on Sunday May 16th. To find out more about the event go to the Heroes Run website http://www.heroesrun.org.uk/ We'll be announcing shortly the date of the 2011 Heroes Run so that you can get in nice and early to help make it the biggest gathering of Super Heroes ever seen.

Hold your own event

At passingiton we love nothing more than when people just get involved and a brilliant way to do this is to hold your own event. It doesn't have to be Super Hero themed (although that's always good for laughs) it can be anything (within moral boundaries) that you think could help raise some money for the cause. 

Examples:

A cheerleading liftathon - how many boys and girls can you hold in the air for four hours?!

Sponsored sponge-fight - can you get the biggest gathering of people all ready for a soaking?

Bake sale - an oldie, but goodie (there's not many who can resist the scent of vanilla icing!)

You probably have hundreds of better ideas - let us know about them!
