Project 3 What we have achieved so far
In November 2009 passingiton funded the purchase of solar pannels for the school. These solar pannels have enabled the school to have electricity in the classrooms and in particular to power a computer that will enable both passingiton and FSF to keep in regular contact with the school.
James, Matt, Niki and Sophie spent a week at the school in January 2010 helping with the restoration of the school along with a great group of FSF volunteers from the company LUSH.
During their time there, the passingiton team shot a documentary film that is being used to communicate the problems at the school and help us raise the much needed funds to continue helping Kwinella Lower Basic School.
Thanks to the generous support of our fundraisers, runners, heroes and general-good-people passingiton has been able to fund the building of a perimeter wall around the school which will provide security and prevent pesky animals travelling through the courtyard and disturbing classes (chicken are a source of amusement wherever you are in the world!)
The wall is now half complete with completion expected by the end of August.
Some words from the project coordinator:
Dear Sirs
It is a great honour to write on behalf on the board members of Fresh Start Foundation and indeed the entire community of Kwinella and its surrounding village to thank you very much for providing us funds to fence the school premises. Kwinella Lower Basic School is one the first and oldest schools in the whole area established in 1965 and since its inception the premises have not been fenced. The current situation of the project is that the contractors have started brick laying and promise to finish the work by next month. The fencing project is going very well as the two lengths of the school premises are finished and is left with the two widths which will hopefully be finished by the next two weeks. Upon the completion of the project, it will make serious impact on the security of the school and provide a very conducive learning environment for our kids who will be our future leaders of our tomorrow. Once again, we thank you very much for funding this genuine and worthwhile project which will serve as a living memory to all of us.
Yours Faithfully
